Surprisingly, they found that 47.2% of the patients “no longer had diabetes after three months of intermittent fasting.”  During the three-month clinical trial, one group had to adopt intermittent fasting, while another followed a diet without time restrictions. The fasting patients switched diets every 5 days, consisting of 840 calories. Subsequently, this group could eat whatever they wanted and in whatever portions they desired during the following 10 days after fasting. After three months, the health status of the participants was evaluated, and again 3 and 12 months after the study. The scientists found that 18 of the 36 patients who adopted intermittent fasting for three months no longer needed to take medications to control diabetes. Additionally, all fasting individuals lost about 5.93 kg, while the members of the non-fasting group only lost 0.27 kg.    Health experts also indicated that 12 months after the study, 16 of the 36 participants in the fasting group no longer had type 2 diabetes and their quality of life had significantly improved. No changes were observed in the health status of the participants in the other group. So it seems that intermittent fasting could help reverse this condition in some patients; however, more studies and clinical trials need to be conducted to confirm its effects and determine who are candidates for this diet.
