For those of us who love baking, the pastry bag is often a total lifesaver. With it, we can add color, creativity, and fascination to our desserts.
Pastry bags can commonly be found in baking stores, but what happens if we don’t have one handy at a moment's notice? The solution is to make our own right then and there, saving the situation so we don’t delay our cakes, cookies, cupcakes, or whatever it may be.
Paper pastry bags, also known as cones or cups, are not only economical but very helpful. What we will need is a sheet of parchment, waxed, or baking paper. This paper should be spread out on a flat, smooth surface. Then, take one of the corners and fold it towards the center, creating a triangle shape with the paper.
Next, hold it with the tip facing down, and bring one side towards the center; then, place the other side over the first. This will form a cone. You must press while twisting to close the tip of the cone. This way, we can fill the cone without it leaking from the edges. Finally, cut a small piece off the tip.
For added strength, the tips that remain joined at the top are folded inward into the cone, thus securing the body of the bag. And that’s it.
