As you know, I love to eat! So I made it a goal to travel but… only to eat hahaha. I know it sounds crazy, but the truth is that Mexico can work wonders with such simple ingredients, making even the pickiest eater want to eat! So I made my travel list and I'm sharing it with you; you will love it! Just grab your bags and forget your belt hahaha:
Querétaro. Besides being super close to Mexico City, it has some amazing enchiladas! Just thinking about them makes my mouth water. In general, this city is known for its fusion of Spanish and mestizo cuisine, so get ready to try escamoles with olive oil, sweet potato with milk, corn bread, and pumpkin, and their floating dessert of ice cream with red wine.
Oaxaca. Wow! This state is amazing, but let me put it this way, you can try very complicated things like their colorful moles, up to their delicious tlayudas –giant corn tostadas spread with beans, cheese, and salsa– that you will love! Don’t forget the mezcal! Enjoy their beaches and take a trip.
Puebla. Another place with Spanish fusion, to start, their star dish is mole, which you won’t want to stop eating, and not to mention the chiles en nogada! They are among my favorite dishes, mixing meat with sweet flavors without losing that spicy touch. If it feels too heavy, try their cemitas or their chalupas.
Yucatán. I have traveled here and the truth is that I always come back like a balloon, but it’s worth it hahaha. There is so much variety that your eyes will feast on what you can try; some of my favorites are kibis, codzitos, lime soup, and cochinita pibil with its delicious red onion.
Sinaloa. Who said the north only eats meat? I have a friend from there who makes an aguachile that blows my mind, literally, it’s amazing, not to mention the variety of dishes and broths made from fresh seafood and a chilorio that you will love.
Jalisco. This is where the famous tequila comes from, so much so that in Spain they go crazy for it, or so a friend told me, which must accompany a torta ahogada, a birria, and ¡pozole! For dessert, have some corn tamales or corn ice cream that will leave you traumatized; I always stuff myself with that hahaha.
What other places would you visit for their food?
