You finish work at six in the evening, and on your way home, your boyfriend lets you know that he will stop by to see you… WITH HIS MOM!
But don’t worry, they are not coming for dinner, they are just stopping by to see you.
- Phew, thank goodness!
And before hanging up, you can imagine his cheeky smile when he says: “maybe a cup of tea with that delicious thing you always make would be nice, love.”
- “With that delicious thing what?!”
Going out to buy “that delicious thing” you always make? Don’t even think about it, you have just a couple of minutes to wash your face.
Well, you only need five minutes to impress your mother-in-law, boyfriend, girlfriend, friends…
Let’s get to work!
Ingredients for two people, your boyfriend and your mother-in-law. You just feel very full that night (one more person means a minute and a half more, scientifically proven):
Four slices of white bread.
One egg.
One tablespoon of sugar.
One and a half tablespoons of mascarpone cheese or one tablespoon of cream cheese (add a splash of milk to mellow its flavor).
Instant coffee, ground or whatever you have with which you can prepare half a cup.
Half a cup of water for the coffee you are going to prepare.
A few drops of liquor of your choice, preferably brandy, cognac, or whisky (drops are less than a splash).
Two tablespoons of cocoa powder or one tablespoon of chocolate powder that you use to make your chocolate milk. The difference is that cocoa has no sugar and is purer.
Utensils:
Two short glass cups, preferably.
Two small bowls.
A fork.
Procedure:
Prepare half a cup of coffee, it doesn’t have to be very strong, and add the drops of liquor.
In the other bowl, add the egg, sugar, and cheese. Don’t forget that if you use Philadelphia, you should add a splash of milk.
Mix everything with the fork. Quickly, very quickly. No lumps should remain.
Remove the edges of the bread by hand and set them aside.
Break each slice of bread into four pieces by hand.
Place one slice of the broken bread in each glass cup, that is, four pieces.
On top, add a splash of coffee.
On top, add a bit of the cream.
On top, add half a portion of cocoa powder or chocolate powder.
Repeat steps 6, 7, 8, and 9. This way, you will have two layers of your dessert.
Take the edges and dip them into the bowl where the coffee was. Push them with your fingers to absorb the little that remains of it. Slightly damp, form two sticks and place each one in each glass to give an aesthetic touch to your dessert.
Put both glasses in the freezer while they arrive, no more than three minutes.
They are already parking; you have two minutes to quickly wash your face and teeth, put on some makeup, and a few drops of perfume… And done!
Recommendations:
You can replace the white bread with toasted bread, but keep in mind that it will be very difficult to remove the edges and even more to turn them into sticks. You can skip the decoration; it wouldn’t be too bad, or look for something extra like a nut, for instance.
If your mother-in-law is Italian, you better change this recipe or sell her the idea by telling her it’s a… “postmodern” tiramisu?
