Gastronomic Recommendations
Located in the heart of Tlalpan Center,
La Jalisciense is regarded as one of the oldest cantinas in Mexico City, as it opened its doors in 1870. It has been visited by painters, writers, composers, and singers, such as Carlos Monsiváis, Jacobo Zabludovsky, and Leonora Carrington, all invited by Renato Leduc, who was a chronicler of Pancho Villa during the Mexican Revolution.Decorated like a typical Jalisco cantina, with a bar and elements made of mahogany, as its owners were originally from this state. Currently,
La Jalisciense is adorned with its history through photographs throughout the place, telling its story and passage through the years, making you feel like you are transported in a time machine upon entering. The specialty of this famous cantina is the bacalao, leg, or serrano ham tortas, and the bread is very soft and served hot. There are also
cochinita pibil and pork crackling tortas, as well as tartare and
paella, although the latter is only served on Fridays.Remember that you will get a
shrimp broth for free with the purchase of any drink, which ranges from classic micheladas, tequila, mezcal, sangria, and of course, cubas. You will find a musical atmosphere of trios on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, you will love it!As a curious note, Alejandro Sanz filmed his music video Una noche in the year 2000, with several shots inside the cantina and around the Tlalpan Center square.Enjoy returning to the past in a delicious, fun, and pleasant way.
