The Pearl of the Pacific is a land of tambora, banda, and carnival, as well as good seafood and cold beer. Its sunsets are among the most beautiful that can be appreciated on the Mexican coasts, and its streets are filled with the history and multicultural confluence of different cultures, evident in its architecture, which reflects German, Spanish, French, American, and Asian influences. This city enchants everyone who visits, as Recodo asserts in its corrido: “How beautiful everything is in Mazatlán.” Beautiful and, moreover, tasty. Mazatlán boasts 123 typical dishes like aguachile, taco gobernador, tamales barbones, or pajaritos, a small swordfish that is prepared to your liking in May. Among Mazatlán's specialties are the nieves de garrafa at Nieves Medrano (named after its location at the corner of the famous Ferretería Medrano), where Don Gilberto Reyes Gamboa offers seasonal flavors such as: plum, walnut (with whole pieces), fig or date for the cold, and tangerine, lemon, spearmint, and grapefruit for the heat, to name a few; Pacífico beer, a pilsner brewed at the port for over 100 years; ToniCol, a vanilla and cola-flavored drink available in health food stores, produced by Refrescos El Manantial; and horchata waters made from coconut, barley, and tejuino. An excellent time to visit this paradise is during the International Carnival of Mazatlán, whose first edition took place in 1898, where you will find a wide cultural and artistic offering. Among the must-do experiences in Mazatlán are strolling along the boardwalk, hopping into a pulmonía - a golf cart adapted as a taxi service - having breakfast at one of the branches of the family restaurant and bakery La Panamá, with dishes that have a unique flavor; walking through La Machado and delighting in the freshly caught products offered by La Unión de Camaroneras de Mazatlán, better known as Changueras, for the past 43 years. With them, you will find shrimp from the sea, farm, and river, crab, lobsters, tripe, octopus, marlin, tuna, among other delicious seafood products that will make you realize that life is tastier by the sea.Without a doubt, Mazatlán is the perfect place to feel the rhythm of lovecito corazón, in sync with the waves.
