Love has many flavors and colors, this is how I would define Gelato Gelana, as this project is a rainbow of ingredients that create the various flavors that have made me happy since I was a child.I remember walking with my grandmother down Aldama street, asking her for a gelato from Gelana. To this day, I still ask for the same flavor: lemon gelato. I have never tasted gelato with such sublime consistency, which evokes a summer afternoon. When you taste it, you can feel the soul of each lemon on your taste buds, as it is freshly squeezed to achieve the unparalleled flavor of a classic.Octavio, the owner and grandson of the creator of this gelato, tells us that it all started in 1999, with his Italian grandfather's recipe, who loved to cook and prepared gelato as dessert for all his grandchildren. Octavio took over Gelato Gelana in 2010.“Artisanal does not mean poorly made; we make something well-crafted that is artisanal and with state-of-the-art equipment,” Octavio mentions. He also expresses his desire for Gelana to be remembered as a pioneering Mexican business in creating ice creams with 100% Mexican flavors, but with traditional Italian technique. Currently, they plan to expand into other states like Puebla and Querétaro. The name Gelana comes from the word gelato, which means ice cream in Italian and from the name of the mother, Ana. Therefore, it is a play on words that reflects not only tradition but also authentic flavor. Additionally, “naturally tasty” was the slogan created by Octavio’s father, who was very witty and lively.Lemon, mango, and soursop were the first flavors of this emblematic gelato shop. The creamy lemon gelato was their star flavor for many years, made from milk, cream, sugar, and the highest quality fruit. Currently, the most popular gelato among the people of Texcoco is the semi-dark chocolate and cajeta flavor.Nowadays, they produce gelato from all seasonal fruits, with natural ingredients, but also innovative and different flavors. Currently, Gelato Gelana offers 45 flavors. Several of them are based on trends, such as the pica fresa snow.People love to share experiences on social media and constantly share their delicious gelatos. For Gelana, this is recognition and the result of many years of hard work. “I can’t see myself doing anything else,” Octavio concludes.
