KiwiFav of the week: London 207, English flavors with a lot of vibe

Are you hungry? At London 207, they cure that. Are you thirsty? At London 207, they cure that too. Chef Pablo Carrera and Patricia Kuri leave no one unsatisfied. Their new venue with a terrace and two floors in Juárez –yes, there’s a setting for every type of diner– is the gastropub we needed in the city. The menu is short but super hearty and inspired by the English capital. As a good pub, there’s everything one might crave when going out for drinks. However, there are also several hearty and delicious main dishes. If you start with drinks, you have two options: English-inspired cocktails or a great selection of wines and beers. Sommelier Wilton Nava has curated the list. The former sommelier of Quintonil proposes several gems from his incredible tasting and olfactory repertoire.  If you arrive early and want a white wine from a remote denomination of origin, Chef Pablo suggests seafood stops like the hamachi tiradito or the tempura oysters.   If you go in the afternoon and want a beer, London has the ideal food pairings. The sliders, for example, are my absolute favorites. They are made with wagyu beef, have Roquefort cheese, and are framed by a fluffy, perfect brioche bun, which could only be created by Pablo Carrera, who also runs Catamundi. For those who can’t resist traditional English tavern fare, there are fish and chips, meat pie, or the hot dog with house-made sausage. For the evening, make sure to check out their cocktail menu with a special emphasis on gins and order some shishito peppers with seasonal mushrooms or some bar olives for the center.London 207 is also always front row at the city’s gastronomic events. A week ago, they participated in A qué Me Sabes, the festival that celebrates the vibrant Chilanga gastronomy through its best restaurants. For the occasion, Israel Montero and Andrea Sayeg joined Pablo Carrera to create a menu paired with cocktails made with Appleton. More festivals and restaurants like these, please, Chilango land!
