International events, great recognition, and many more surprises are part of the winemaking scene in Mexico.Winery of the Year!Wine Enthusiast, in its 23rd anniversary, nominated Monte Xanic, in the Valle de Guadalupe, Baja California, as the “New World Winery of the Year.” This nomination represents recognition for Mexico as a producer of high-quality wines, especially for the Valle de Guadalupe and the work that this winery has done to transform Mexican wine.The nomination, made by a group of professionals from Wine Enthusiast Media, established in 1979 in the United States, was based on various criteria such as consumer impact, commercial success, company vision, and trend-setting.Thus, Monte Xanic is part of the shortlist among five wineries from different wine regions considered part of the New World. The winners will be announced on Thursday, November 3, 2022, at 11:00 am and will be published in the December 31 edition of Wine Enthusiast magazine.Hans Backhoff, General Director of Monte Xanic, expressed his joy at the nomination and emphasized that: “Mexico has provided the world with endemic, authentic beverages that generate culture and traditions. As a leading winery in high-end wines in the country and in Baja California, we will continue to bet on producing wines we can be proud of, showcasing our exceptional Mexico to the world.”World Congress of Wine, for the second time in MexicoFrom October 31 to November 4, 2022, the 43rd World Congress of Vine and Wine 2022 and the 20th National Assembly of the International Organization of Vine and Wine (OIV) will take place in Ensenada, Baja California. The congress is held annually in different countries and primarily attended by winemakers, scientists, and academics, as well as grape and wine producers who exchange knowledge. This will be the second time it is held in Mexico.The Secretary of Agriculture and Rural Development, Víctor Villalobos Arámbula, highlighted that one of the central themes of this congress will be to work on rethinking the future of viticulture in the country and the world in light of climate change effects, in order to ensure quality and volume with sustainable management of natural resources, through the adaptation of agriculture and the fight against pests and diseases with improved varieties.The realization of this world congress in Mexico represents an important window to the world of the national wine industry and a key link for its promotion. Let us remember that there are more than 400 wineries throughout the country, with a production area exceeding 39,000 hectares, an annual production close to 500,000 tons of grapes, and more than four million boxes of wine.
