There is no doubt that we must pay special attention when their little teeth begin to appear, as caring for them is a habit that should be adopted for a lifetime. But where to start? Here are some tips.
Clean their gums
Even when the first teeth have not yet emerged, it is important to keep their gums clean. To do this, we recommend gently wiping them with a damp piece of gauze. Do this at least twice a day, after they eat and before putting them to bed.
Start using a toothbrush
When you see that your baby's teeth are just starting to appear, it's time to brush them. Apply a thin layer of fluoride-free toothpaste, like Colgate My First, to their toothbrush and brush carefully.
Constantly check their mouth
Look for any spots on their teeth, white or brown, which could be a sign of cavities, or even pits in their teeth.
Don't let them have the bottle for too long
When they are lying down, make sure they do not have the bottle for an extended period, especially if the bottle is already empty. This will help prevent cavities.
Their first dentist appointment
The best recommendation is for your little one to start visiting the dentist as soon as their first teeth come in. This way, you can better understand their oral health, and the specialist can give you some recommendations on their care.
Monitor their sugar intake
Did you know that…? Children who eat sweets every day have almost double the cavities compared to those who consume them less frequently.
Prefer natural sugar
It is recommended that children drink only one glass of juice a day. Ideally, you should give them whole fruits.
Avoid sweets at night
To prevent sugar from accumulating on their little teeth, we suggest giving them only plain water and milk before bedtime. Remove the accumulated sugar from their teeth and create the habit of brushing them with Colgate My First.
