Our country is distinguished internationally by its cultural richness and incredible gastronomy, but that’s not all. In Mexico, high-quality beverages, primarily distilled ones, are produced. We invite you to take a small tour through some states of the country via their distillates:
Oaxaca
Although several states in the republic have the designation of origin for mezcal, 80% of the total production occurs in Oaxaca. While tequila and mezcal are both agave distillates, these beverages are essentially different. On one hand, the type of agaves required is not the same, and on the other, the preparation process also varies, with mezcal being much more artisanal.
Try the flavor of this delicious distillate with an original
mezcal margarita with mango.
Chihuahua
In the largest state of the country, a delicious beverage is made from an endemic plant of northern Mexico called sotol. This distillate is one of the few alcohols that is considered truly organic, as the plants used for its preparation are wild, and the production methods remain 100% artisanal.
Make this
mint and bubble lemonade and add a shot of your favorite sotol to enjoy a refreshing cocktail.
Puebla
Just like chiles en nogada, the most popular beverage in Puebla is made from poblano chiles, only in its dried version. Ancho chili liqueur is a very original distillate that tastes more than just dried chiles; it has notes of cinnamon, cocoa, and even a bit of almond.
Discover the fascinating flavor of this peculiar poblano distillate by mixing 3 parts of pineapple juice with one part of ancho chili liqueur and a few drops of orange juice. Although it's a quick and simple drink, it is full of aromas. Try it, you won’t regret it!
Jalisco
The most famous distillate of Mexico, tequila, is made exclusively from blue agave piñas, which are crushed, cooked, fermented, and distilled until the desired alcohol content is obtained. Depending on the aging time, tequila is classified as blanco, joven, reposado, reserva, or añejo.
Forget about tequila sunrise and palomas. The
tequila gin is the new way to drink tequila.
Guerrero
Among the most traditional drinks of Guerrero is tepache. Originally, it was prepared with corn, but today we can find tepache made from many fruits, primarily pineapple. Tepache is a very light, fresh drink with an exquisite sweet flavor.
Turn typical lager beer into an exquisite cocktail by adding tepache, ginger slices, and lemon juice. You will see that it will be much more refreshing.
Chiapas
The ideal drink for pairings in Chiapas is undoubtedly pox. Made from Chiapanecan corn, pox is an artisanal distillate with great cultural value. For years, the towns in Chiapas have used it in their parties, ceremonies, and rituals, so more than just a distillate, it is considered an element of cultural identity.
Transform a traditional
jamaica water into a spectacular drink by adding a shot of pox. You will love it!
