Still struggling with the pounds from the Guadalupe-Reyes?
Don't worry. There are ways to reduce the calories in your desserts without sacrificing flavor.
Discover which ingredients can make your sweet cravings healthier and equally delicious:
Agave syrup. Since agave syrup is sweeter than sugar, you only need half or ¾ of what you would use for sugar.
Coconut flour. Use 1/3 cup of coconut flour and two egg whites to replace one cup of traditional flour.
Cinnamon. The strong flavor of cinnamon amplifies the sweet taste. With the right amount of cinnamon and salt, you can make a recipe taste sweeter than it is.
Bananas. Replace the oil in cookies with one cup of mashed bananas. In addition to saving some calories, you'll get an extra dose of potassium.
Avocado. One cup of mashed avocado has the same effect as one cup of butter in brownie and chocolate cookie recipes.
Greek yogurt. To bake a healthier version of cakes, substitute cream with Greek yogurt.
Applesauce. Substitute butter in cake recipes with the same amount of applesauce.
Beetroot. Add 2/3 cup of grated beetroot to the brownie batter and you can reduce the amount of sugar by up to ¼ cup.
Egg whites. Instead of using a whole egg, add two egg whites to save 60 calories and 6 g of fat.
Low-fat milk. To make pie crusts, substitute melted butter with two tablespoons of low-fat milk and mix it with the crushed cookies.
As you can see, it's very easy to save some calories when preparing desserts.
