From snacks like quesadillas to desserts like buñuelos, deep-fried foods are undoubtedly part of Mexican cuisine. When we venture to make homemade fried chicken, for example, we later don't know what to do with the oil.Perhaps you already know that cooking oil should not be disposed of down the drain (in fact, this not only has terrible consequences, such as clogging your pipes and even affecting the drainage of the entire city), but you should throw it in the trash for proper disposal. However, if you feel guilty about using a large amount of oil just to throw it away afterward, you need to know this trick to clean and reuse it.The traditional way to reuse oil is to let it cool, then filter out the large residues. Then, using a fine mesh strainer and a coffee filter, the oil is strained into a clean, lidded container for storage. If you wish, you can double filter it by first straining the oil through the mesh strainer and then through a cheesecloth. But there is a trick that simplifies everything, and for this, you only need cornstarch and water. Trick to clean and reuse frying oilTo clean the oil more quickly, this trick with water and cornstarch is what you were looking for. For every cup of oil you want to reuse, mix a quarter cup of water with a tablespoon of cornstarch.Pour this mixture into the used oil once it has cooled, and this will gather and trap the solid residues so you can dispose of them. Put the oil with the mixture on the stove and heat it over low heat; be sure not to let it boil. Stir constantly with a silicone spatula until the cornstarch mixture begins to solidify or take on a gelatinous consistency, which will take about 10 to 12 minutes.Remove the oil from the heat and strain it through a fine mesh strainer; you can also use a slotted spoon to scoop out the gelatinous cornstarch mixture, and that's it, your oil is clean and ready to be reused. If you notice a cloudy tone in the oil, don't worry, this will disappear when you heat it again. You can refrigerate this oil and reuse it up to three more times.
