In Mexico, we usually prefer tortillas over bread; however, there are certain dishes that simply go better with a delicious piece of freshly baked bread. (Can you imagine eating fondue or goulash with a piece of tortilla?). It is true that tastes vary and each person has their own style or way of eating, but there are some “protocols” regarding how certain foods should be eaten that most people follow. For example, Mexicans know that a rolled tortilla serves as an aid when eating or that if it's filled with some stew, it becomes a taco. Something similar happens with bread. Generally, when you arrive at a restaurant, a basket of bread and some pieces of soft butter are served to accompany it. Commonly, people break the bread and spread a bit of butter on it. https://www.instagram.com/p/BLdabanjoPk/?tagged=beurre Credit: muschetta On some other occasions, instead of butter, some soft cheeses are served, like goat cheese or Camembert. https://www.instagram.com/p/BLbEzEKh4dA/ Credit: lauraponts One would think that these two options are incompatible; however, dairy experts teach us how to eat bread in the best way. According to French tradition, the best way to eat bread is by spreading a bit of butter and then adding cheese over the layer of soft and creamy butter.
