According to figures from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), 12% of the population in Mexico, between the ages of 20 and 80, is diabetic; making us the country affiliated with this international organization with the highest number of individuals reporting this condition.
Meanwhile, the World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that there are 250 million people worldwide with this disease, and over 300 million are at risk of acquiring it.
In Mexico, the main complication associated with the death of these patients is renal (43.2%), followed by vascular (7.3%), ketoacidosis (4%), and coma (2.3%), experts reported at the First International Congress on Science and Innovation in Diabetes, 2012, organized by the Faculty of Medicine (FM), the Coordination of Scientific Research, Conacyt, and the Initiative for Diabetes (INPADIA)
It is a chronic degenerative disease with unfavorable prognosis for the Mexican population, as social and hereditary factors contribute to its onset.
It is considered one of the main causes of medical attention in outpatient consultations and hospitalizations. Generally, type 1 diabetes is hereditary and implies very little or no insulin production, so it must be supplied to the patient.
To prevent and control diabetes, certain recommendations must be followed for the benefit of individuals. Among these is food, which is a key factor that helps prevent or control.
