Vitamin K is a group of fat-soluble vitamins necessary for blood clotting, increasing metabolic pathways (to burn fat), and reducing arterial calcification, which also prevents cholesterol, according to a study from the University of Maryland Medical Center, United States.     Vitamin K or phylloquinone is part of the fat-soluble vitamins produced in the intestines and is found in nature in two distinct forms: synthesized by bacteria (vitamin K2) and in plants (vitamin K1), and vitamin K3 which is artificial and synthetic; all of which help prevent cardiovascular diseases and improve digestion.   Foods with Vitamin K   A natural way to obtain good levels of vitamin K is through diet by including foods rich in this nutrient that promote inhibition and greater body fat burning because it improves insulin sensitivity, according to researchers from Columbia University, so it is recommended to consume:   1. Herbs (fresh and dried). Dried basil, sage, and thyme are the highest in vitamin K, as well as fresh parsley, cilantro, marjoram, and oregano.   2. Leafy green vegetables. Dark green leafy vegetables are rich in vitamin K and calcium, including spinach, cabbage, watercress, beets, Swiss chard, mustard greens, and lettuce.   3. Broccoli. Contains high levels of vitamin K in just 100g, in addition to having a high level of fiber, antioxidants, and other vitamins.   4. Prunes. In addition to containing vitamin K, they are high in fiber, zinc, and even iron, making prunes a very good food for digestive health.   5. Animal-derived foods. This vitamin is also found in products of animal origin, so moderate consumption of eggs (yolk) and liver, which have a higher content, is recommended.   While the effects of vitamin K on weight loss, fat burning, and cholesterol reduction are still being studied, a study published in the Journal of Korean Medical Science explains that these benefits are due to the vitamin group helping to activate osteocalcin, responsible for these effects.   Article courtesy of Salud180.com Go to original article.   Recipes with Vitamin K   Tomatoes with Basil Prepare this recipe here.
