Have you noticed that when you eat too quickly, you don't feel full? This happens because eating fast reduces the secretion of hormones in the intestine that trigger the feeling of fullness, say scientists from the University of Athens. Therefore, consuming hard foods that are more difficult to chew can help us lose weight.
On the other hand, a study published in PLOS ONE revealed that the hardness of foods plays an important role in the sensation of satisfaction. In light of the growing obesity rates, scientists put fifty people aged between 21 and 24 on a diet based on soft foods and the second group on raw and hard foods.
When the participants had the more solid lunch, they consumed about 90 calories less on average, 13% less compared to the soft food.
There are several hard foods that you can incorporate into your diet that will also fill you with nutrients and energy.
1. Almonds. They are delicious and will provide you with the proteins and carbohydrates you need between meals. Furthermore, according to a study from the International Journal of Obesity, people who eat almonds while dieting lose more weight than those who do not include them. Of the 39% total fat in almonds, 25% is healthy and packed with fiber.
2. Coconut. It is a refreshing food rich in fiber; one cup contains 7.2 grams of fiber, which is more than 20% of the recommended daily intake for adults. Fiber helps the digestive process by adding bulk to stools, helping to move food along the digestive tract. Additionally, it helps against hair loss.
3. Carrot. They have a high fiber content, which the body does not digest, simply passing through the digestive system and dragging other foods along with it. However, the body tries to digest it anyway, sending more digestive enzymes, which in turn makes the rest of the food digest better, increases the feeling of fullness for longer, and speeds up metabolism.
4. Radish. Radishes, in addition to being a hard food that you can consume as a snack, are very low in their glycemic level, meaning that when you consume radish, your sugar levels remain balanced, and your need for sugars and desserts will decrease significantly.
5. Celery. Celery is essential for adding flavor to the diet, and it is made up of water in almost 95%, making it a digestive, diuretic, and cleansing food for our body. Moreover, according to researchers from the University of Chicago, celery reduces cholesterol levels by up to 7 points for every two stalks.
Incorporate these hard foods into your daily diet and let us know if they have worked for you to lose weight.
