During the December celebrations and winter in general, it is very common for food to be an essential part of these festivities, to the point of causing a sudden weight gain. Additionally, evolutionarily, the human body used to require a higher intake of fats to withstand the season.     According to specialists from the Ibero-American University of Science and Technology in Chile, during this time, a weight gain of between 2 and 5 kilos is recorded, depending on dietary habits and physical activity during winter. These are the 5 most common reasons why we gain weight during these dates: 1. Diet rich in fats. The body burns fat at a slower rate, just like with carbohydrates and proteins, so it is more common for this excess to be stored as fat deposits. 2. High alcohol consumption.  Due to the increased consumption of alcoholic beverages during the celebrations, the amount of empty calories also rises, which the body cannot burn efficiently. 3. Emotional eating. It is common for disorders that affect eating patterns to arise during this season, such as anxiety or stress, which are alleviated through the pleasure derived from food. 4. Processed foods.  One of the characteristics of this type of food is that they contain trans and saturated fats, which lead to increased overweight, making it important to moderate their consumption. 5. Eating to socialize. Food is the main excuse to show affection and other feelings during the holidays, which implies larger portions and dishes full of sugars, fats, and sodium. As various nutrition specialists mention, the best recommendation during this winter season is moderation and an increase in physical activity, which will help prevent rapid weight gain.   View original article here.
