Hydrogenated fats are considered worse than other fats, and most experts recommend avoiding them.
These are processed fats that do not occur in this state in nature. They are mono or polyunsaturated fats that undergo a factory process called hydrogenation. During this process, hydrogen is injected into oils to change their physical properties. This is done to artificially produce the texture and flavor of some saturated fats like butter.
In this type of fats, there is margarine and solid oils. Another common type of this kind of fat is shortening.
Because they do not break down easily, they are used in many products such as cookies and cakes. Shortening is used with sugar to decorate pastries and cakes. For example, the frosting you buy at the supermarket is shortening, sugar, and coloring.
When you buy cupcakes, cakes, or pies, they are generally decorated with shortening; some places sell cakes decorated with our traditional meringue (egg whites and sugar) or with natural butter. If you want to avoid shortening, ask before buying.
These fats raise the level of bad cholesterol in the body and contribute to more abdominal fat.
Hydrogenated fats are in almost all fried foods because they give a crunchy texture to the food.
Among hydrogenated fats are some margarines, shortenings, and artificial butters. They abound in prepared foods and restaurant meals.
