Hummus (Arabic: حمٌص; Hebrew: חומוס; Greek: Χούμους) is a salad or dish made from pureed chickpeas with lemon juice, a paste called tahini (sesame seed paste), and olive oil, which may also include other ingredients such as garlic, paprika (usually sprinkled when served), etc., depending on the local variant. It is a very popular dish throughout the Middle East, including Israel, Lebanon, Palestine, Turkey, Greece, Syria, Armenia, and Cyprus, although the hummus consumed in Greece is quite different from that found in the Arab world and Israel.
