According to Robb Wolf, a biochemical researcher and author of The Paleo Solution, the philosophy of the Paleolithic diet is simple: leverage our hunter-gatherer genetics to achieve better performance, health, and appearance.
What does it consist of?
According to overweight and obesity expert Raúl Manriquela, the Paleolithic diet proposes a scientifically-based lifestyle: it is based on the premise that our DNA has developed 99% of its existence in a sowing and harvesting environment; therefore, by consuming foods that are off the genetic menu, our body begins to function poorly.
Paleolithic Menu
Paleolithic foods: fish, seafood, meat, eggs, fruits, vegetables, mushrooms, olive oil, herbs and spices, nuts, seeds, and even insects and roots.
Prohibited or non-Paleolithic foods: cereals and derivatives, such as bread, pasta, and oats, legumes, dairy in general, salt, sugar, margarine, sodas, fried products, candies and chocolates, in general, those foods that, when reading the nutritional information, contain ingredients that are hard to understand.
The advantages and disadvantages
Researcher in endocrinology and columnist, Salomon Jakubowicz, through Huffpost Voces, refers to the Paleolithic diet as a diet created by nature, which basically provides lean proteins, good fats, and fiber. Due to its protein content, it is a diet that makes it easier to control appetite and represents a healthy option for people who gain weight due to insulin resistance or hormonal causes.
The disadvantages, Jakubowicz indicates, include reaching extremes in lifestyle, such as advising to defecate standing up for more efficient evacuation or in the diet: prohibiting certain methods and substitutes for cow's milk.
Some options to adapt to a Paleolithic diet are: include a Paleolithic meal in your daily routine, replace the need for sugar from a sweet treat with a fruit, avoid drinking calories from sodas and bottled juices, choose natural water or tea, and get active: engage in more paleo activities, which are all outdoor activities, for example cycling, meditation, or running. Take care of your health!
