Just as inadequate nutrition can worsen anxiety, it is an emotional state in which a person experiences feelings of distress, hopelessness, and inner emptiness.
Experts emphasize that it is a disorder that initially affects the mind but can also impact various organs in the body, potentially leading to: tachycardia, stomach pain, diarrhea, etc.
Anxiety is a phenomenon that occurs in all people and, under normal conditions, improves performance and adaptation to social, work, or academic environments. It has the important function of mobilizing us in the face of threatening or worrying situations, so that we take the necessary actions to avoid, neutralize, accept, or adequately confront the risk.
Tips to prevent food-related issues and anxiety
- Distinguish between feelings of anxiety and hunger.
- Respect meal times (do not skip any meals). It's advisable to delay the act of eating for a few minutes after experiencing the first sensations of hunger.
- Eat seated at the table, in a calm and orderly manner (without mixing dishes).
- Remove the serving dish from the table after serving yourself.
- Get used to leaving something on the plate, do not eat what's left over.
- Get up from the table when you have finished eating.
- Plan menus in advance to prepare them properly.
- Shop with a list avoiding forbidden items; bring just enough money.
- Do not shop or cook when hungry. For example: prepare dinner after lunch…
- Prepare a list of activities that are incompatible with eating out of hours. Engage in those activities when feeling anxious about eating.
- Learn to relax to avoid tensions that first create anxiety and then lead to overeating.
