We have all experienced moments when, due to lack of time or carelessness, we forget to bring lunch to work. And while this used to feel like a relief or even a reward, now it can become a source of concern. The famous “What am I going to eat today?” has gradually turned into a thorough review of menus trying to find something that won't ruin your diet or sabotage your weeks of hard work at the gym. Before you opt for a granola bar and lots of water, or worse, “holding out” until you get home, we share some fast food dishes you can enjoy without guilt: via GIPHY Pizza Pizza is generally considered an enemy of healthy eating plans, but the truth is that it is a very complete dish: it contains grains, vegetables, dairy, and, if you like, meat. By choosing the right ingredients, you can enjoy pizza without worry, with 266 calories per 100 grams. Recommended recipe: Eggplant Pizza Burger It's a similar case to pizza. The problem isn't the dish itself, but the extras that add calories: bacon, onion rings, extra cheese, etc. Choose a burger with lean meat or chicken, with very little sauce (ketchup, mayonnaise, or mustard) and preferably on whole grain bread. And definitely skip the fries. Recommended recipe: Portobello Mushroom Burger Wrap This could be the light version of a traditional Mexican burrito, obviously, without adding dressings or sauces. Compared to a burger or pizza, wraps usually come with more vegetables, which can provide more vitamins and minerals. Enjoy a wrap with grilled chicken, lettuce, and vegetables with about 340 calories. Recommended recipe: Spinach, Egg, and Vegetable Wrap Sandwich The main “but” you might find with this dish is its white bread base. To increase its nutritional value and fiber content, we suggest ordering a sandwich with whole grain bread. Look for sandwiches made with turkey or chicken and seasoned with only one sauce to save on calories. Recommended recipe: Healthy Tuna Sandwich Sushi This dish can often be one of the “false healthy” options. It has always been said that eating fish is very good for health, but eating an entire roll breaded with extra sauce is not such a good idea. Look for rolls with salmon and avocado to boost your intake of protein, fiber, and healthy fats. Recommended recipe: Mango and Salmon Sushi Falafel While we wouldn’t recommend eating falafel every day (due to the oil), it can be a good occasional choice. Half a cup of falafel contains 333 calories, but this is offset by high levels of iron, potassium, zinc, calcium, and magnesium. If you follow a vegan diet, this is your best option for fast food. via GIPHY The problem with fast food is not what you eat, but how you order it. The base of most foods is nutrient-rich, however, when you “customize” your order and add extras, you can end up adding up to double the calories. (Note: each tablespoon of mayonnaise adds 57 calories to your dish). So if you're craving pizza, go for it! But forget the extra cheese, double portion of salami, and cheese-stuffed crust.
