There are some ingredients that help maintain eye health, and here we recommend them so you can always take care of one of your five senses.
Vitamin A is essential for having healthy eyes. A deficiency in this nutrient can cause dry eyes, poor night vision, eye strain, and even permanent astigmatism. For older adults, this vitamin also helps prevent the onset of cataracts and other diseases related to visual degeneration.
Finding vitamin A in daily food is very easy. To mention just a few products, we can talk about milk, eggs, beef and chicken liver, as well as cod. Of course, there are also plant options that have the same effect, as the pigments in the skin of colorful vegetables and fruits also assist in better vision. More specifically, we refer to yellow, orange, and red vegetables as they contain carotene.
You may have heard it before, and two carrots a day are sufficient to obtain the daily necessary amount of carotene, and therefore, vitamin A. Now, it is also possible to find beneficial pigments for vision in green vegetables such as spinach, romaine lettuce, and broccoli. As you can see, eating green salad at least three or four times a week is very positive for the eyes as it helps keep them hydrated and slows down their aging process.
If you prefer fruit over vegetables, there are also alternatives, as blackberries and red fruits also have elements that help with vision. Both strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries contain powerful antioxidants that prevent the onset of cataracts and other eye diseases. As mentioned before, milk can also play an important role in this regard, especially if it is fortified with vitamin A. We recommend buying lactose-free milk since, in some isolated cases, the buildup of plaque caused by dairy minerals can block the eye arteries.
Speaking of the main dish, both lean meat and salmon have specific proteins to support eye function and prevent fatigue resulting from today's hectic life, which, with pollution, computer screens, and television, can weigh on our vision.
