Are you trying to lose weight and know that you need exercise, but you're not a fan? You don’t have to spend seven days a week at the gym working hard on machines and weights, but consistency definitely plays a role in the process of reaching your goals (and maintaining them). Our friends at
ActitudFem share their information on how much exercise you should do to lose weight.
To lose weight, it's best to exercise for one hour a day, six days a week. It's not just about the calories you burn, but about the habits you build around consistency.
When you exercise every day, even if it’s just walking the dog or walking to work, you create a habit or a ritual that is hard to break, something so common to your day that you do it without thinking (like brushing your teeth). According to Australian trainer Michelle Bridges, if you know that exercise is something daily and not something you do some days and not others, you are more likely to do it without giving yourself the opportunity to justify skipping it.
What she recommends is that you have “hard” exercise days (like going to the gym) three times a week, and passive exercise (like walking or yoga) on the other three days, with one rest day.
Exercising six days a week will make you more consistent and will help you reach your goal faster. So even if you only have spinning class three times a week, don't forget to do something physical on the other three.
