Currently, the word cholesterol is filled with negative comments associated with poor diet, cardiovascular problems, and obesity, but in reality, it is a necessary element for our body.
Cholesterol is a type of lipid fat that participates in many important physiological processes such as cellular, digestive, and hormone synthesis, among other functions.
These fats in excess are harmful to people's health, which is why we must moderate their consumption.
Here are some tips we can use to reduce cholesterol when it's elevated:
- It is highly recommended to consume oily fish several days a week.
- We should do everything possible to reduce the consumption of red meats, at least twice a week.
- If we are heavy coffee consumers, it is very good to start quitting it and replacing it with tea.
- We should not consume alcoholic beverages of any kind.
- Try to consume whole grains and whole wheat bread.
- Go for a walk daily for at least 30 minutes.
- We should consume a moderate portion of fruits and vegetables daily, ensuring that the portions are not too large.
