Granola bars are a great solution for hunger between meals. They not only energize us and satisfy our hunger, but they are also nutritious and promote our digestive health.
While we can find a wide variety of granola bars in many places, including bars of different flavors and in both regular and low-calorie versions, we can make our own homemade granola bars tailored to our own tastes.
To make the granola bars, we need to have a few basic ingredients, along with those that are of our preference.
1. We start by placing sugar in a frying pan or saucepan, preferably non-stick to prevent sticking, and we achieve a good, shiny caramel. When it's ready, we will add a small portion of butter and a good spoonful of honey while removing the pan from the heat and mixing vigorously to combine.
2. Next, we begin to incorporate the cereals of our choice. Puffed rice is a great option as it is light and healthy, but you could also use the cereals you eat for breakfast, such as granola, or even a handful of oats, although a mix of all of them would work well too.
3. Then, you need parchment paper (or greased paper) and something to serve as a frame, which could be the outline of a cake mold or a dish lined with the paper. Place the mixture there, spreading and pressing down to create a compact layer. At this point, you can add chocolate chips, raisins, peeled sunflower seeds, or whatever you like best, including, why not, gummy candies. You can also top it with a layer of melted chocolate.
4. With the help of a knife at room temperature or warm, cut the bars to your desired size, or into cubes to serve on a plate. Then, when they are well cooled and ready, you can wrap them in paper, and you have homemade granola bars ready to take to school, to work, or at any time.
