In the culinary world, there are ingredients that can be quite misleading, especially when there are interests at stake. We are referring to those products or foods that are marketed as super healthy and light but can actually have as many or more calories than a regular version. Today we discuss 7 foods that, although they have a reputation for being healthy, are not as good as they seem. Granola The reality is that granola contains a lot of sugar, and the proper serving size is ¼ cup, a quantity that everyone typically doubles or triples at breakfast. This means you could be consuming pure sugar and not enough fiber during the most important meal of the day. Dried Fruit It seems super healthy because it’s fruit, right? The reality is that it’s packed with sugar and also has unnecessary preservatives to extend its shelf life. If you add some seasoning like chili and chamoy, a single handful can contain around 30g of sugar. Fruit Yogurt When it comes time to choose yogurt, try to go for plain, and preferably Greek, as it has more protein. Fruit-flavored yogurts, in most cases, do not contain natural fruit and instead have a lot of added sugar. Bars If you use cereal or protein bars for exercising, check their nutritional information very carefully. Most likely, the energy you get from those bars comes from carbohydrates, meaning pure sugar. Instant Oatmeal The homemade version is healthy since it can have around 18g of carbohydrates and little sugar. This is not the case with store-bought versions, which can have up to 32g of carbohydrates and 12g of sugar. Juices If you want something sweet and tangy, we recommend enjoying a natural fruit as it has significant fiber content. On the other hand, packaged juices have a lot of sugar, even when they are 100% made from natural fruit. Salad Dressings If what you're looking for is a lot of salt, preservatives, and artificial flavors, then sure, buy a bottle of salad dressing. These products ruin the nutritious and light qualities of a good salad, so the best alternative is a bit of balsamic vinegar, olive oil, and lemon.
