The first edition of Meat Sorority took place on November 18th, a space designed to engage in dialogue among various women about their roles within the culinary industry in the charming garden of the Flor de Luna Distillery, with the participation of Elena González, Food Service Manager at USMEF Mexico; Raquel del Castillo, journalist and Menu Editor at El Universal; and Fátima León, bartender and founding partner of Runneght. Amid glasses of rosé wine, white wine, and non-alcoholic cocktails, pleasant conversations began among chefs, bartenders, bloggers, public relations representatives, journalists, and other women in significant positions in food companies, who shared their impressive anecdotes while enjoying sandwiches and desserts prepared by chef Mate Zorrilla. You learn more from failure than from success After a brief introduction by Jazmín Martínez, in charge of the Food Police blog, a series of talks were initiated in which both Elena, Raquel, and Fátima shared their personal stories and experiences surrounding the failures that shaped their careers in the sector. Elena González recounted the challenges she faced while searching for a job for 2 years in a field that was completely different from the profession she studied; from her, we learned the importance of perseverance and raising your hand both to seek help and to offer it. On her part, Raquel gave us an important lesson in loyalty, strength, and sisterhood. She made it clear the invaluable weight of a support network to face any challenge that comes your way, whether professional or personal. Fátima described the complicated journey she went through when changing jobs, cities, and practically her lifestyle, only to face the sudden passing of her father, after which she understood that there's no need to pretend to be strong when you feel vulnerable. Meat Sorority aims to create many more of these editions to strengthen the bonds and spaces created by and for women in a ruthless industry where standing out becomes increasingly difficult.
