2024 is shaping up to be one of the most important years for Mexican cuisine and the restaurant industry. This year, the prestigious Michelin Guide arrived in Aztec lands and selected the best places to eat in Mexico City, Oaxaca, Baja California, Baja California Sur, Quintana Roo, and Nuevo León. Here we tell you which ones they are! It is worth mentioning that Michelin stars are not the only recognition that has honored Mexican gastronomy. It all started with UNESCO's recognition and then came the inclusion in rankings such as The World’s 50 Best, La Liste, and also recognitions for bars. This is just the beginning! For decades, the famous Michelin stars have been awarded to restaurants that stand out for their flavor and service. Although the Michelin Guide already had a presence in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, it arrived in Mexico in 2024. It is important to mention that to receive a Michelin star, restaurants must meet 5 very specific requirements, according to the official website: Excellent quality of ingredients. Mastery of culinary techniques. Harmony of flavors must be present. The chef must express their personality in their recipes. There must be consistency over time and across the menu. To determine if a restaurant meets these standards, inspectors visit the places anonymously and determine whether they meet the requirements to be recommended by the Michelin Guide or if they deserve 1, 2, or even 3 Michelin stars.
