kiwilimón, the largest digital platform for recipes and food tips in Spanish, is recognized by the Food Bank Network of Mexico for its firm commitment to rescuing food and combating hunger among the country's vulnerable population. How does kiwilimón contribute to reducing food waste? Recently, the Food Bank Network of Mexico (BAMX) awarded kiwilimón an important recognition for its collaboration that began in 2021 when they joined the Food Rescue Program of the Food Bank of Mexico. Over the course of 2 years, the food recipe platform has donated good quality food, used in the production of its content, to BAMX, fulfilling the goal of rescuing food throughout the entire value chain to provide it to families, communities, and institutions in need, promoting better nutrition in Mexico. In just the first quarter of 2023, kiwilimón has donated a total of 53 kilos of food, including fruits, vegetables, cereals, proteins, desserts, pasta, and soups, among others, resulting in a total of 175 portions. Particularly in Mexico, one-third of the food produced is wasted, which amounts to 38 tons per minute, enough to feed 25.5 million people in vulnerable situations, according to BAMX. And if we focus on Mexico City, we find an approximate daily food waste of 13,000 tons. Can you imagine how many people could be fed with these amounts? That is why kiwilimón is pleased to collaborate with the Food Bank Network of Mexico to combat hunger and improve nutrition, because here #wefeedwithlove and we will continue the year with many more actions for social causes.
