An event that mixes some of the best bands of the moment, the favorite dishes of Mexicans, and the presence of international comedians sounds like an event not to be missed.
That is why Central Modelo, which took place on November 12 and 13, has come to stay as a festival that does a bit of everything and does it more than well.
This 2016 marks the 91st anniversary of Grupo Modelo, the premium brewery in Mexico. How did they decide to celebrate it? They set out to research, with the help of regular diners, what the 91 favorite dishes of Mexico City were. Once they found them, they organized a festival around it, where music and comedy took center stage.
1.- You ate like there was no tomorrow

Inside the event, there were pork belly tacos from Tizne Tacomotora, the famous shrimp tacos from Fisher’s, and of course, ribs from Porco Rosso. Not enough? How about arepas from Órale Arepa, cemitas de rabo de res from Mexagastro, and bacalao a la vizcaína from Gadus? While the mix was diverse, there was one common point that united the offerings: each of the dishes was chosen by diners like you and me who enjoy the delights that Mexico City has to offer.
2.- You pretended to be very cool when Andrew Bird and Ximena Sariñana sang

Now, what differentiates Central Modelo from the many other festivals that CDMX offers every year? At its heart lies gastronomy, what draws attendees is their love for good food and great beer. In a setting where singers like Ximena Sariñana and Andrew Bird entertained the attendees, it was the Mexican street food that stole the night.
3.- You avoided making eye contact with Ricardo O'Farril

As if the presence of Daniel Sossa, Diego Zanazi, and Ricardo O’Farril, among other stand-up comedians, wasn’t enough, they warmed up the crowds at the beginning of the sessions to start with laughs that would end with dancing and midnight cravings served by some of the capital's favorite restaurants.
4.- And you kept eating....

5.- You thought you were seeing double, but the reality was that you had 1 beer in each hand

It seems safe to say that, although it was the first Central Modelo, it will not be the last as they have started something that people will want much more of.
Now, who says you can't have your own food festival at home? Here are three recipes to challenge some of the best restaurants in the city:
Bacalao a la vizcaína
We recommend pairing it with Modelo Ámbar
Tacos de camarón Rosarito
We recommend pairing it with Modelo Especial
Costillitas BBQ
We recommend pairing it with Modelo Trigo (the newest beer from Grupo Modelo)
