2020 has not been an easy year, as the pandemic caused by COVID-19 halted many industries in our country, and the economy of small businesses has been one of the most affected. In Mexico, the restaurant industry supports more than 1.5 million people, and in this sector, nearly 95 percent of the restaurants in the country are small eateries, taco stands, or tortillerías, according to information from Reforma. With the extended quarantine and the new normal, many small food businesses have had to close or barely survive, but the families running them have had to live with the fear of their small enterprise going bankrupt. To help these small establishments, the initiative #YourLocalKitchen has been created, which promotes consumption in small restaurants, eateries, and any food establishment, so that the owners can stay afloat in this new normal.Several private companies, along with the National Chamber of the Restaurant Industry and Spiced Foods (Canirac), have been working to talk to the owners of these small businesses to understand their new needs and help them adapt to the current context, aiming to prevent closures that would further impact the country's economy. This campaign is providing support to 200,000 businesses across the country through digital actions, both with materials and training, as well as safety materials to ensure that these small food establishments meet health guidelines to operate correctly. So don’t stop buying from your favorite and nearby eatery, taco stand, or food place, and be part of #YourLocalKitchen as we all get through this pandemic together.*With information from Reforma.
