Cuban cuisine, like this small Caribbean island, is a true celebration filled with flavors, colors, aromas, and textures that everyone should try. That's why we invite you to travel to this exotic country through the best of its food. Discover the most emblematic dishes of Cuba! Traditional Cuban food has been influenced by indigenous people from Africa, Arabs, Chinese, Portuguese, and even Spanish. That's why we can recognize the flavors of spices like garlic, cumin, oregano, and bay leaf, exquisitely mixed with other ingredients such as meat, vegetables, and fruits. Ropa Vieja One of the most emblematic dishes of Cuba is undoubtedly ropa vieja, a stew made with shredded beef in a tomato sauce that is usually served with rice and other vegetables to taste. Moros y Cristianos The traditional moros y cristianos refers to the succulent black beans accompanied by fluffy white rice. Some Cubans serve rice and beans separately, while others mix them; how do you prefer them? Vaca Frita Very similar to ropa vieja, vaca frita is a stew with shredded meat but without tomatoes. It is prepared with a bit of onion, garlic, lemon, salt, and beef. It can be served with rice and crispy fried plantains. Tostones Like other Latin American countries such as Colombia, Puerto Rico, and Venezuela, tostones or patacones are fried cakes made from green plantains that can be combined with other ingredients like fish or meat. Cuban SandwichAlthough this dish originated within Cuban communities in the United States, it is a very popular Cuban dish that consists of a sandwich with ham, roasted pork, Swiss cheese, pickles, mustard, and sometimes salami in Cuban bread. It can be pressed and heated on a griddle. Ajíaco Ajíaco is a dish originating from the 16th century that consists of a broth with dried meat, flank steak, pork, corn ears, malanga, green plantains, yuca, pumpkin, limes, salt, and pepper. Many love it despite it seeming a bit strong for those with sensitive stomachs. CaldosaCaldosa is a traditional Cuban dish very similar to Colombian sancocho, but it is prepared with chicken, and includes root vegetables like pumpkin, green plantains, yuca, malanga, potatoes, spices, as well as vinegar or lemon, garlic, and tomato puree.
