Where do hamburgers come from? According to the Encyclopedia Britannica, the exact origin of the hamburger is not known, but it is believed that the meat and bread may have been brought to the United States by a group of German immigrants in the 19th century.  2. The most famous hamburgers According to the portal Food & Wine, the McDonald brothers stopped making BBQ and started selling hamburgers in 1948. Years later, this business would become one of the most famous in the world.  5. Another competitor is born In 1954, entrepreneurs David Edgerton and James McLamore bought a business called Insta-Burger King.
