A scone is an individual round bread roll, typical of British cuisine and originating from Scotland. It is a very common food for breakfasts and afternoon teas in the UK, as well as in Ireland, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the United States. In Scotland, the triangular portions of the flatbread cake called bannock (probably the ancestor of the scone) are also known as scones.
It is made with wheat, rye, or oat flour, butter, and yeast. It is usually served warm and split in half, and it appears as an ingredient in the high tea in Scotland.
Although the scone is traditionally round, it is also marketed in the form of flatter triangles to save flour. Homemade scones can be round, triangular, or square. (Source: Wikipedia)
