Here are 3 easy recipes! Traditional King Cake The most traditional version includes ate and a sugar crust, and it is the most popular. Learn how to make it with our recipe.  Ingredients 5 g of yeast 1 tbsp. of sugar 2 tbsp. of water (warm) 2 cups of flour 1/4 cup of sugar 2 eggs 1/3 cup of milk Orange zest Lemon zest 1/3 cup of butter (in cubes) 1/4 cup of vegetable shortening 1/4 cup of sugar ¼ cup of flour 300 g of ate Preparation Preheat the oven to 180 °C. Mix the yeast with the sugar and warm water and let it rest until it doubles in volume. Form a volcano with the flour, sugar, yeast, eggs, milk, zests, and butter. Combine all ingredients until a dough is obtained. Knead and hit against the table until it is smooth, elastic, and does not stick to your fingers. Cover with a damp cloth and let it rest in a warm place until it doubles in volume. Roll out the dough to form the ring and place it on a greased baking sheet. Cover with a damp cloth and let it rest in a warm place until it doubles in volume. For the sugar crust: beat the vegetable shortening, sugar, and flour together. Brush the King Cake with the beaten egg, divide the sugar dough into strips, and place it on top, along with the ate. Bake for 1 hour or until golden brown. Stovetop King Cake It doesn't matter if you don't have an oven, because you can make a very fluffy and delicious King Cake on your stovetop. Don’t miss out on trying it! Ingredients 1 1/2 cups of butter (at room temperature) 1 1/4 cups of sugar 10 eggs Orange zest 1 tbsp. of vanilla extract 2 cups of flour 3 tsp. of baking powder Apricot jam 1 package of vanilla cookies (crushed) 1 cup of cherries in syrup 1/2 cup of ate Preparation Beat the butter and sugar at medium speed until combined, then add the eggs one by one, continuing to beat. Incorporate the orange zest, vanilla extract, flour, and baking powder, and continue mixing until you have a smooth batter. Set aside. Pour the mixture into a previously greased and floured ring mold. Cover with aluminum foil and cook in a double boiler on the stovetop for 1 hour or until a toothpick comes out clean. Let cool and remove from mold. Brush the King Cake with apricot jam and decorate with cookies, sugar, ate, and cherries.See more: Why can’t we eat acitrón in king cakes anymore?King Cake with ChocolateFor those who prefer sweeter options, this King Cake with chocolate is the best choice. Ingredients 100 ml of milk (warm) 8 g of yeast 3 cups of flour (370 g) 3/4 cup of sugar 1/4 tsp. of salt 2 eggs 1 tbsp. of vanilla extract 1 tsp. of orange zest 2/3 cup of butter (cold, in cubes) 3/4 cup of pecans (toasted) 1 cup of flour 1 cup of powdered sugar 1 cup of butter 1 egg yolk 1 cup of almonds (finely chopped) 11 chocolate bunnies White chocolate (melted) Preparation Preheat the oven to 170 °C. Hydrate the yeast with the warm milk and let it rest for 10 minutes. For the dough: beat the flour, sugar, salt, milk with yeast, eggs, vanilla extract, and orange zest. Knead until you obtain a firm and elastic consistency. Add the butter and nuts and beat until combined. Place the dough in a previously greased bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Let it ferment for 2 hours or until it doubles in volume. For the crust: beat the flour, powdered sugar, and butter until you obtain a firm dough. Refrigerate. Place the dough on a floured surface, remove excess air, and shape it into a strip. Join the ends to form the ring. Insert the plastic figurines from underneath and transfer the ring to a baking sheet. Let it ferment for 20 more minutes.Form the sugar crust with the refrigerated dough. Brush the ring with egg yolk and place the crust on top, alternating with the almonds. Leave spaces between the almonds and the crust.Bake the King Cake for 20 minutes or until cooked. Remove and let cool.Melt 8 chocolate bunnies in the microwave in 30-second intervals. Cover the gaps with the melted chocolate and attach the remaining bunnies.
