It shouldn't be a complicated task to ensure the turkey is well cooked and delicious. Here are some tips that can help you:
- The ideal temperature for cooking the turkey should start at 220 °C so that the heat penetrates the turkey; after approximately half an hour or 40 minutes, the temperature should be reduced to 170 °C to avoid browning the outside while the inside remains raw.
- You should cover the turkey with sheets of aluminum foil and make sure they are properly placed. This will help keep it moist and prevent the skin from browning too much and drying out, plus it will facilitate the cooking process inside.
- Each time you baste the turkey with the sauce (every 30 minutes), ensure that the oven temperature does not drop and that you place the aluminum foil back correctly to avoid burning any part.
- To know if your turkey is well cooked, you should insert a knife into the thickest part of the turkey (preferably the thigh); the juice that comes out should be clear. If the juice is red or you notice that the meat is still a bit pink, you should cook the turkey longer.
- When you take the turkey out of the oven, do not remove the aluminum foil and let it rest for about 30 to 40 minutes; this allows the natural juices of the turkey to redistribute and not escape.
