One of the most celebrated dates in our country and one of the most well-known in Mexico around the world is quickly approaching. Our Day of the Dead is unlike any other celebration in October, and as such, it has its own customs, with one of the biggest being its gastronomy. Today we present our top 5: recipes for the Day of the Dead that will honor the day we pay tribute to those who have passed.
Pan de muerto. If there is a dish that is eaten during this season, it is the delicious pan de muerto. It may be its soft texture, the sugary crunch, or perhaps that mild and sweet flavor. What we know is that it is a favorite among both children and adults when celebrating and gathering with family.
Yolk pan de muerto. If you want to prepare a recipe different from the usual, then we recommend this preparation made with yolk. The flavor is different but just as delicious as the traditional one. We recommend pairing it with hot chocolate to get the full Day of the Dead experience.
Hot chocolate. Another of our great traditional ingredients is cocoa, which was used both as currency and as an elixir for the most powerful during the pre-Hispanic era. Since then, it has been an ingredient used to honor the dead, and today we can continue doing so with this delicious recipe.
Squash blossom cream. One of the most representative aspects of these festivities is the cempasuchil flowers themselves. It is said in mythology that these flowers used to guide the dead to their final destination, and it was through their colors that one could find their way. Today we leave you this recipe for squash blossom cream to honor this ancient tradition.
Skull gingerbread cookies. While there are skulls used for Halloween, our very traditional calaveritas combine sweet flavor with a very traditional aesthetic. Today we will show you how to take this idea and turn it into gingerbread cookies for the kids to enjoy and help decorate.
