Within the list of seafood, tuna is one of the most consumed products due to its great health benefits and its high use in diets. This fish has a high level of omega-3 fatty acids and Eicosapentaenoic acid, from which its health properties derive. According to specialists and research, consuming tuna helps lower cholesterol levels in the blood, which reduces the risks of suffering from diseases such as atherosclerosis and thrombosis. Among other benefits, tuna reduces inflammation, which could help prevent cerebrovascular accidents, high blood pressure, and reduce symptoms of diseases like Alzheimer’s. A diet that includes tuna provides important nutrients to the body, as the selenium it contains has antioxidant properties, while other components like magnesium and iron help the body prevent heart problems and some types of cancer. Its vitamins include types A, C, and B6, the latter helping to reduce the risk of atherosclerosis. However, the consumption of fish and seafood should be moderate due to the high levels of mercury they contain, a substance that is harmful to human health if consumed in high doses. Fish that are good to consume include tuna, salmon, cod, catfish, and shrimp. The proteins in tuna, as well as in other fish and seafood, are easily digested by our bodies, and daily consumption could provide our bodies with one-third of the necessary proteins for proper functioning, offering a dose of 40% of vitamin B12. NOTE: a portion of canned tuna, approximately 100 grams, provides 116 calories, which is why this seafood product has become a star food, as it not only has nutritious and health-beneficial properties, but it is also good for dieting or maintaining weight.
