For a long time, elite sports have ceased to be a male-only domain; every four years, women competing in the Olympics surprise us more and more with their skills. Of course, at each Olympic event, there are some participants who attract more attention due to their backgrounds and the promise they show regarding the possibility of winning a medal. Here are the 5 Olympians to keep an eye on.
The smile says it all. I love this sport and the many people I've met along the way. Excited to be heading to Rio with @usaswimming @teamusa! Thanks to everyone for the support and cheers this week and over the past few years. Ready to rep the best country in the world! Go USA! PC: @mike2swim

Shelly Ann Fraser-Pryce
Age: 29
Competition: athletics (100 and 200 meters)
Country: Jamaica
Why should you follow her?
She already has a gold and silver medal thanks to her performance at the 2012 Olympics, but this time she aims to take success away from the American athletics participants and will also attempt to break the women's 100-meter speed record. Some say she will achieve it.

Why should you follow her?
Maria del Rosario Espinoza arrives at the Olympic event as the number one in the world in the +68 kilogram category, so she carries the strongest hope for a medal for Mexico; she has already received Olympic gold in Beijing 2008. She competes on August 20.

Why should you follow her?
Paola has proven to be extremely competitive and although her strength lies in synchronized diving (where she has already received medals in previous events), we should not rule out her entering the podium in the 10-meter diving competition. She competes on August 18.
