There isn't a day that goes by when I don't thank the universe for my friends, especially when they say smart things like that nopal tortillas have done wonders for their digestion.
Today I want to share with you 4 diet tips that one of my best friends recommended to me, which I have applied in the last month with excellent results. Excellent. Our friends from ActitudFem share more of this information with us, so you can follow your diet without having to go hungry or suffer with these foods.
1. Nopal Tortillas
I'm not joking, ladies, but replacing the regular tortillas you eat with nopal tortillas will have a direct and immediate impact on your digestion. For those who suffer from constipation, it’s an excellent remedy, and for those who just want to benefit from all the positive things that nopales have, it's a great option. You can find them in the supermarket, and they last a long time if well refrigerated... Plus, if you make chilaquiles, they'll turn out amazing.
2. Seaweeds
The alginates, found in seaweeds (the ones used to make sushi), can suppress fat digestion in the stomach. Just as you read it, the little seaweeds prevent us from absorbing the fat we consume. You can find dietary supplements of seaweed, or if you live near the coast, you can probably buy them fresh to add to soups, rice, or salads, or use them as tortillas to make tacos.
3. Ultra Light Apple Pie
If your weakness is desserts, this tip is ideal for you: whenever you crave something sweet, prepare this recipe that somewhat simulates the taste of an apple pie. Heat in the microwave a sliced apple with a packet of Splenda and cinnamon. It really satisfies the craving for something sweet and warm, and little by little you can improve the recipe by changing Splenda for agave honey or a little piloncillo, as you progress in your diet.
4. Mineral Michelada
I'm a fan of beer—did I mention that? For me, it’s the hardest thing to give up when I'm on a diet, and I swear I dream of having an ice-cold michelada when I'm in abstinence mode (I'm not an alcoholic, but my relationship with beer is special). As part of leading a healthy lifestyle, I’ve learned to drink without so many calories, but I can't resist a beer. Until I tried this tip: order a michelada glass (or cubano as they call it in Mexico City), the one that comes with lime and salt and delicious sauces, but instead of beer, ask for mineral water. It’s not the same taste, don’t expect it to taste like a michelada beer, but it’s similar enough that you won’t miss having a cold beer. This trick will allow you to have the best of one beer and then save the calories of the second and third... It’s also not okay to overdo it because the sauces to make it michelada or cubana have a lot of salt, but at least you’ll save the additional calories from the beer.
