5 tips that DO NOT work for weight loss

Losing weight is something that most of us want to do at some point in our lives, some for aesthetic reasons and others for health, but when the diet bug bites, we often get carried away by advice that doesn't necessarily help you lose weight. Our friends at ActitudFem share some of it with us...
1. Cut out gluten
Not everything that is gluten-free is low in calories, and many things that do contain gluten also bring other nutrients that can help you reach your goal (like fiber). If you don't have to cut out gluten, don't seek to follow this type of diet unless you are prepared to read every label very carefully.
2. Eat plenty of fiber
It's not that the tip is bad; it's just incomplete. If you start eating All Bran as if there’s no tomorrow and don’t increase the amount of liquids you drink during the day, the fiber will end up being counterproductive. Increase the fiber in your diet slowly and compensate with more liquids, or you’ll be bloated with consequences.
3. Eat two snacks a day
Having fruit in the morning or a controlled snack is fine, but if you're filling half your days with energy bars, check the calorie content. Some of them can have up to 400 calories per serving. Instead of buying bars for your diet, a bag of peanuts or almonds may be sufficient. From a bar to nothing... sometimes it's better to have a glass of water. Don’t forget to read the labels!
4. Eat after exercising
It's not wrong to eat after working out, but do it only when you are really hungry. Not all of us burn thousands of calories at the gym; sometimes a cardio routine might make you lose no more than 100 calories. If you’re hungry after exercising, try to eat proteins, but if you feel fine and don’t want to eat, you don’t have to.
5. Always order the salad
In a restaurant, a salad can have up to 1200 calories, while a grilled chicken breast is rich in protein and can be much more effective for your diet. If you decide on the salad, choose something that has protein (like salmon or chicken), that doesn't have breaded ingredients, and ask for it without dressing. Remember that sometimes a piece of meat can be less caloric when accompanied by vegetables.
