It's not the first time I've heard this. In fact, some medications work better when taken at night due to our nighttime biorhythms. If this is the case, what happens with beauty products? Especially with anti-cellulite treatments.
According to an article by Abigail Campos, a columnist for El País, there are several reasons why some beauty products work better at night when we go to sleep:
Certain processes in our skin and body occur, provoke, or are carried out at specific times. Because of this, certain cosmetic treatments can be formulated to optimize those processes.
At night, blood flow in the dermis and adipose tissue increases. “Sleep affects skin temperature and influences blood flow by increasing it. Greater blood circulation in subcutaneous adipose tissue favors and enhances lipolytic mechanisms and skin drainage,” a specialist added. In fact, she explained, “the horizontal position we adopt while sleeping causes an immediate increase in blood flow in all areas of the body. This facilitates the drainage of waste accumulations, the oxygenation of tissues, and the elimination of excess fluids.”
In her interesting article, journalist Abigail Campos indicates that the formulas of reducing and anti-cellulite products differ if they are for night or day, because they are inspired, according to experts, “by the processes that occur in the body during the night and because they complement the action of daytime products. The skin has circadian rhythms that repeat every 24 hours and that are endogenous but can be influenced by external stimuli.”
How to improve the effectiveness of these products
The advice provided by the report is what we might have already imagined:
Get enough sleep. This important process in our life, which we sometimes take little notice of, “influences the elimination of toxins from the body and is related to lipolysis (the burning of fats).” If we sleep poorly, detoxification is slower.
Massage is essential for the effectiveness of anti-cellulite products. “An active massage, usually in upward circles, starting from the knees, improves absorption and action,” it adds.
Using large amounts of the product is useless. The equivalent of a walnut-sized amount for thighs and calves, and another walnut for the abdomen and sides is sufficient.
An active life improves the results of any product, as one of the factors contributing to the appearance and development of cellulite is sedentariness.
The journalist concludes that ideally, these types of products should be applied year-round, not just before going on vacation. Consistency is one of the keys to success. Interesting, don't you think?
