Feeling under the weather? We've all been there at some point, which is why we offer some tips to help you recover healthily.
The truth is that after a night of drinking, when we feel a bit unwell, some crave something sweet and absorbent like pancakes and waffles, others prefer something spicy like chilaquiles or enchiladas, and many others prefer not to eat anything at all. None of these alternatives are healthy; in fact, while they may provide some relief at first, they could worsen your body's condition.
The first option is eggs, which are full of protein and low in fat; they help stabilize the body and eliminate alcohol from your system. Now, if you can't eat anything solid, coconut water is a great alternative; it's highly hydrating and contains sugars that will help your body feel better. Additionally, a single carton of this water contains more potassium than an entire banana, and this is the essential ingredient to help your body recover.
Another less common alternative is soup. Whether it's broth or tomato soup, the salt it contains will help you retain fluids and consequently retain potassium and electrolytes that you need for bodily functions. Again, if you prefer not to ingest anything solid for the moment, then go straight for a glass of fruit juice; it doesn't matter which one, the fructose will make you feel more revitalized and help eliminate alcohol toxins faster.
Coffee is an obvious option, but it works. If you have your obligatory morning cup, you will be dilating blood vessels, which will help relieve your head from pain. Plus, this morning friend helps to stimulate brain functions, something you may need after a somewhat blurry evening.
Finally, the most obvious option is the banana: it has fructose, is healthy, fills you with potassium and essential minerals, and is easy to find and eat. The idea is to swap out high-calorie post-party breakfasts for these highly recommended options; if it doesn't sound too appetizing, just think about how much you want to start feeling better.
