Saturday is definitely my favorite day because I take the opportunity to pamper myself and turn my home into a spa. This past Saturday, it was my hair's turn; I did a fantastic hot oil treatment.
Now I can't tell you that it's quick to do. It's going to take a bit more time than the other treatments I normally recommend, but it's worth it. My hair turned out super soft!
The oil is the essential part of the treatment, and although you can use any type, some oils work better depending on your hair type. If your hair is oily, I recommend castor oil, and if it's dry, lean towards jojoba oil or avocado oil. If you have trouble finding these oils, you can substitute them with olive oil.
You will need:
-5 tablespoons of oil (whichever you choose)
-Infusion herbs like rosemary, parsley, black tea, chamomile. (You can find them in tea bags and simply remove them from there)
Preparation:
1. Place the oil in a small dish and put it in the microwave for about 10 seconds. It doesn't need to be too hot.
2. If you are using tea bags or herbal infusion bags, break them open and add the herbs to the still warm oil. Wait a few seconds and grab a small strainer or coffee filter to strain the oil.
3. Divide your hair into four sections, 2 on top and 2 on the bottom, and apply the oil with a brush. I recommend using pastry brushes; they are great for this.
4. Once you have distributed the oil throughout your hair, give yourself a few massages to help it penetrate the scalp.
5. Put your hair in a shower cap and place a warm towel over it. Wait at least 30 minutes for the treatment to take effect.
6. After waiting, wash your hair with shampoo. If necessary, apply it twice to completely remove the oil.
All done! When your hair dries, you'll notice it is much silkier and softer.
