Baking soda is a popular ingredient in the kitchen that is generally used for baking, as it gives a light and fluffy texture to bread, cakes, and cookies. However, due to its leavening properties, meaning it reacts with an acid like vinegar or lemon juice, it can also be used as an exfoliant for the skin.Baking soda is a home remedy that is commonly used to remove dead skin from the feet, but it requires caution, as some dermatologists warn that it can be irritating, cause redness, and further dry out the skin, as it can alter the natural pH balance of the skin. That said, the dead or loose skin that forms on the feet is how the foot exfoliates and naturally sheds dead cells; this can accumulate due to a lack of moisture, when you constantly wear closed shoes or socks, but also due to friction from walking or running, and if you do not care for and exfoliate your feet regularly. If the dead skin on the bottom of your feet looks dry, cracked, loose, or hanging, you can use this home remedy with baking soda to remove the roughness, as long as you do not have skin sensitivity or allergies. To prepare it, you only need a small amount, about 2 to 3 tablespoons of baking soda in a full warm water bath, and soak your feet in it for 10 to 20 minutes. Afterward, gently use a pumice stone or a foot brush to completely remove the dead skin. Finally, apply plenty of moisturizer to your feet.Remember to do a patch test beforehand, and if you experience redness or irritation during it, remove your feet from the solution immediately.
