Mexican food is one of the most popular cuisines in the world today. The flavors, textures, colors, and all the folklore surrounding our gastronomy make it replicated in every corner of the planet. The bad news is that some eager fans of chili, beans, and tortillas fail in their most sincere attempts and commit culinary atrocities that annoy us quite a bit. You have surely noticed and share our outrage over these 10 mistakes that foreigners must stop making (and thinking) about our food once and for all. via GIPHY Not everything is cheesy! Yes, we like cheese, but no, we don’t put it on all our dishes. via GIPHY Not everything has to be spicy! Again, yes, we like spice, but we don’t enjoy burning our mouths every time we eat. Salsas are also meant to taste good. via GIPHY Don’t fry everything! While there are certain specialties we fry like quesadillas, the truth is that much of our cuisine is not excessively greasy, much less “deep fried”. via GIPHY The tortilla for tacos should not be hard! What is this “hard shell” nonsense? Here we heat our taco tortillas on the grill for a few seconds to give them texture and warmth, no crispy “U” shaped tortillas. via GIPHY Not everything is taco, burrito, and chalupa! Do we like to roll stews in tortillas? Yes. Is that all our cuisine? No! You should make pozole to see what is good. via GIPHY Prepare vegetarian dishes! Not everything in our food is carnitas and pastor; we have a multitude of vegetarian and vegan dishes for every taste and palate. via GIPHY Stop making churros as our only dessert! In fact, churros come from Spain; we prefer a rich flan or a delicious ate with cheese. via GIPHY Stop making fajitas and nachos! They are delicious, of course, but when you make them don’t think they are Mexican. The truth is they are Tex-Mex, and here we don’t consume them that much. via GIPHY Stop using sweet corn! Yes, that intense yellow corn is not the corn we use in Mexico and completely changes the flavor of the dishes. via GIPHY There is life after tequila! Here, agave has many uses, and in fact, the trendy drink is mezcal. Although tequila is purely Mexican, not everything in life is margaritas. via GIPHY When you have foreign guests at home, we recommend preparing one of these delicious lesser-known typical Mexican recipes: Squash Blossom Soup Avocado stuffed with Chicken Tinga Fried Escamoles Tacos Quince Paste Clamato with Mezcal
