Oats have taken a prominent place in our diet. What makes oats so well-known today is their high content of insoluble fibers.
This is an exceptional amount, at 8 g per 100, which undoubtedly influences intestinal transit. Once in the body, the fibers swell and suppress appetite, helping us limit consumption between meals and, therefore, weight gain.
On the other hand, oats may also help prevent some types of cancers of the digestive system, including colon cancer; although its role in treatment remains controversial.
Be careful if you substitute whole grains with oat bran, as it is very aggressive on the intestine. Its consumption should be avoided in the cases of children under 5 years and the elderly, as it could negatively affect their digestion. In this latter case, it is recommended not to exceed 3 tablespoons per day.
Consuming oats, regardless of the form in which they are consumed, must necessarily be accompanied by a large amount of water, as they absorb any liquid.
