At kiwilimón, we are fans of good food and also of continuing to learn about the culinary world. That’s why this month, we took a tour of restaurants outside the city, chilangas gems, and we also took an amazing course that fascinated us from start to finish. You already know, if you're looking for plans for the weekend, want to try new flavors, or just want to break the routine, don’t miss the recommendations that the kiwilimón team has for you. Here we tell you what our favorites of the month were. 1. Hñähñú, Otomí Root Cuisine The restaurant is located in Mixquiahuala, Hidalgo. From the moment you enter the place, you realize that the journey was worth it. The restaurant is not only a love letter to Otomí cuisine and culture, but it is also a living example of community work, as Hñähñú is decorated with paintings, cushions, and other pieces made on a backstrap loom, all crafted by Trinidad González. Additionally, chef Juan Antonio Rodríguez collaborates with traditional cooks like Inés Monroy. In this restaurant, you will find ancestral flavors and knowledge that not only enchant us with the products and recipes from the valley of mezquital but also remind us of the greatness of Otomí cuisine and culture. If you want to taste the true flavors of Mexico, visit chefs Cintia Salvador Mera and Juan Antonio Rodríguez and enjoy their rabbit meatballs, their desserts inspired by cave paintings, and their incredible brews made with plants typically used in herbalism. Recommended by Gretel Chávez, Editorial Coordinator. 2. Broths, Broths, Broths The saying a little broth to cure the soul has never been truer than when I found Broths, Broths, Broths, a culinary proposal created by Liz and Marco, who redefined the classic chicken broth and transformed it into 3 delicious options made with Mexican ingredients, hoja santa, and lots of collagen to nourish both body and soul. Broths, broths, broths is a small colorful place located on Dr. Vértiz, filled with flavor and endearing dishes created with fresh vegetables and nutritious ingredients, where you will also find snacks like rikiñas, a unique version of green enchiladas, frijostada, and delicious dobladitas, among many others. If you're in the area, don’t hesitate to visit them! Recommended by Adriana Sánchez, Editorial Coordinator. 3. Lo de Julio I visited this cozy place with countless options full of history. Additionally, Lo de Julio is named that way because it feels like you are visiting a friend’s home. You can’t miss the beet salad with yellow lemon cream. The roasted chicken with mashed potatoes and Brussels sprouts is another must-try dish. To drink, ask for the water monster, stout, fig, and cane. Recommended by Yamilette González, Chef Coordinator. 4. Pinche Gringo BBQ San Ángel A new branch of Pinche Gringo BBQ has opened its doors in San Ángel, and while this place respects the essence of the chain, the branch specializes in sandwiches. Get ready to taste great flavor between two breads, filled with original flavors crafted by the chef of this chain, with a 14-hour smoke. You will experience a unique experience worthy of the best palate. Recommended by Nadia Brito, Trafficker & Digital Planner. 5. Splenda for Baking If you also want to reduce sugar but struggle because you love desserts or have issues with glucose, then Splenda is your solution. The truth is that excessive sugar consumption is a serious issue; it is absorbed very quickly in the body, leaves us with the famous pork illness, raises blood glucose levels, and only gives us empty calories. I started researching and testing because I am a fan of sweets. I made a mug cake with Splenda, and it seriously turned out delicious. Moreover, I learned that sweeteners have very few or almost no calories, and they are suitable for people with diabetes, so they are a great tool for healthier eating. I went all out and bought Splenda for Baking, but then I discovered that they also have other varieties like brown Splenda, drink powder, and even liquid sweetener options. Recommended by Lourdes Serrano, Community Manager 6. Weber Grill Academy This academy will help you become a grilling pro in record time. Classes already include supplies, recipe book, drinks, discounts, and even you participate in a raffle. I attended a class where there was a collaboration between Weber and Chubbies Burger. We prepared the buns for the burgers, the meat, mac & cheese with chicken, and buffalo-ranch dressing. To finish off perfectly, we made a maple milkshake with bacon. In addition to learning amazing recipes, the atmosphere among the chefs and participants is very joyful. It is 100% worth it for grill lovers! Recommended by Mara Alpízar, Chef.
